MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (February 21, 2008) – Conceptus, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTS) announced that Todd Sloan joined the Company today as Vice President of Strategic and Professional Marketing, reporting to Mark Sieczkarek, President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Sloan is responsible for the Company’s strategy process, coordinating and implementing the business development plan and professional marketing of the Essure system for permanent birth control.

Mr. Sloan was most recently with Boston Scientific where he was Director of Marketing for the Urology/Gynecology Division from July 2002 until February 2008. In that role, Mr. Sloan was responsible for marketing leadership following Boston’s acquisition of BEI Medical, the developer of the HTA System for Global Endometrial Ablation.

“Todd’s experience in Urology and Gynecology sales and marketing brings organization and leadership to our professional marketing efforts,” said Mr. Sieczkarek. “We expect Todd to play an important role in the future of Conceptus’ development of the in-office, non-invasive permanent birth control market.”

Mr. Sloan’s background includes extensive experience in sales and marketing for Boston Scientific over the past 11 years. He has held a variety of positions in both sales and marketing, including the launch of seven products in the endo-urology and surgical gynecology areas and has extensive experience with the management of Class III PMA device. Todd received a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and an MBA from Lehigh University.

About the Essure Procedure

The Essure procedure, approved by the FDA in 2002, is a permanent birth control procedure that replaces tubal ligation for women. In the comfort of a physician’s office and in about 10 minutes, the soft micro-inserts are placed into the Fallopian tubes through the cervix eliminating the need for incisions. Once in place, the device is designed to elicit tissue growth in and around the micro-insert to form an occlusion or blockage in the Fallopian tubes.

The Essure confirmation test is performed three months after the procedure to confirm that the micro-inserts are in the correct location, the tubes are blocked and that the woman can discontinue temporary birth control. The Essure procedure is 99.80% effective and is the first and only FDA approved female sterilization procedure to have zero pregnancies in clinical trials.

About Mr. Sloan’s Compensation

In accordance with NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4350, as amended the Company will grant inducement stock appreciation rights to Todd Sloan. These options will be granted without stockholder approval pursuant to NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4350(i)(1)(A)(iv) and will have the following terms: 100,000 stock appreciation rights, exercise price equal to the fair market value on the grant date (March 10, 2008), 10-year duration and vesting at a rate of 12.5% for the first six months and then equal vesting over the next 42 months of service with the Company.
