CONCEPTUS BREAKS LANGUAGE BARRIER BY OFFERING PERMANENT BIRTH CONTROL INFORMATION TO A GROWING MULTI-ETHNIC COMMUNITY

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (March 28, 2007) – Conceptus, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTS), developer of the Essure® non-incisional permanent birth control system, today announced that the company has re-launched a new Spanish-language Web site to serve as an educational resource for contraceptive options including permanent birth control. An estimated 1.1 million people in the U.S. undergo permanent birth control procedures each year, including more than 700,000 tubal ligation procedures.

The new Spanish-language Web site, espanol.essure.com, enables potential patients to view animations that compare the benefits and risks of invasive surgeries like tubal ligation and vasectomies to the Essure procedure. Visitors to the site can also watch videos of actual patients—Essure Women—talking about their experience with the Essure procedure, a physician locator with specified Spanish-language proficiency, view frequently asked questions and download educational materials.

“We have seen a growing number of Hispanic women inquiring about the Essure procedure—women who have traditionally relied on temporary methods or surgical tubal ligation for their birth control needs,” said Lisa Pohmajevich, vice president of Marketing for Conceptus. “The Spanish-language Essure Web site will provide these women with the information they need when making such an important decision.”

The Essure permanent birth control procedure requires no cutting or general anesthesia and can be performed in a doctor’s office, allowing women to avoid the risks of surgery. Most women return to normal activity within 1-2 days after the Essure procedure, unlike surgical tubal ligation, which can require a week or more of recovery. Other procedure benefits that appeal to all women include no scarring, no weight gain, no hormones and insurance coverage by most carriers.

About the Essure Procedure
The Essure procedure deploys a soft micro-insert into the fallopian tube through the cervix using a minimally invasive transcervical tubal access catheter. Once in place, the device is designed to elicit tissue growth in and around the micro-insert to form an occlusion or blockage in the fallopian tube. An Essure procedure does not require cutting or penetrating the abdomen and can be performed in a less costly procedure setting without general anesthesia. A woman is able to return home about 45 minutes after the procedure is completed. There is a three-month waiting period after the procedure during which women must use another form of birth control. The Essure procedure is 99.80% effective after four years of follow-up. The Essure procedure has been demonstrated in a small portion of the women undergoing clinical studies to be 99.74% effective based on 5 years of follow-up. Follow-up of all patients in clinical trials is ongoing.
