CONCEPTUS’ PERMANENT BIRTH CONTROL WEB SITES FOR CONSUMERS AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS EARN EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Consumer information on www.Essure.com Healthcare professional information on www.EssureMD.com

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 2, 2006) – Conceptus, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTS), developer of the Essure® non-incisional permanent birth control system, today announced the company’s web sites have earned three WebAwards of excellence from the Web Marketing Association. The recently re-launched sites for consumers and healthcare professionals have been developed to serve as educational resources about permanent birth control options. An estimated 1.1 million people in the U.S. undergo permanent birth control procedures each year, including more than 700,000 tubal ligations. Consumers can obtain information, interact with women who have chosen the Essure procedure, and locate a nearby trained physician at www.Essure.com. Healthcare professionals can get the latest clinical and training information on the procedure at www.EssureMD.com.

The WebAwards (www.webaward.org) is the standards-defining competition, which sets industry benchmarks based on the seven criteria of a successful web site. The www.Essure.com site earned a Healthcare Standard of Excellence award and the www.EssureMD.com site earned Medical Standard of Excellence and Medical Equipment Standard of Excellence awards.

The Essure procedure allows women to avoid the risks of surgery and the discomfort of general anesthesia. Most women return to normal activity within 24 hours after the Essure procedure, unlike traditional tubal ligation, which can require a week or more of recovery. The new consumer web site contains information that helps potential patients compare and discuss the benefits and risks of invasive surgeries like tubal ligation and vasectomies to the Essure procedure. It also contains methods for potential patients to interact with women who have chosen the Essure procedure—questions and answers, live events, podcasts and a blog.

“We believe consumers should know what options they have when making important healthcare decisions and the new Essure Web site will provide the information they need when considering permanent birth control,” said Mark Sieczkarek, president and chief executive officer of Conceptus. “The Essure procedure reduces the risks and costs of permanent birth control for the physician, the consumer and the insurance carrier.”

The healthcare professional site has been designed to meet the needs of Conceptus’ current customers and provide all healthcare practitioners a counseling and patient referral tool for women inquiring about the Essure procedure. The private section, designed for current customers, allows users to attend a self-paced didactic training, purchase product and literature, obtain procedure and reimbursement support and download templates, presentations and other valuable documents. The public section contains abstracts of all peer-reviewed clinical literature, Essure Confirmation Test (low pressure HSG) protocol for radiologists and instructions for obtaining permanent birth control counseling kit.

About the Essure Procedure
The Essure procedure deploys a soft micro-insert into the fallopian tube through the cervix using a minimally invasive transcervical tubal access catheter. Once in place, the device is designed to elicit tissue growth in and around the micro-insert to form an occlusion or blockage in the fallopian tube. An Essure procedure does not require cutting or penetrating the abdomen and can be performed in a less costly procedure setting without general anesthesia. A woman is able to return home about 45 minutes after the procedure is completed. There is a three-month waiting period after the procedure during which women must use another form of birth control. The Essure procedure is 99.80% effective after four years of follow-up. The Essure procedure has been demonstrated in a small portion of the women undergoing clinical studies to be 99.74% effective based on 5 years of follow-up. Five year follow-up of all patients in clinical trials is ongoing.
