CONCEPTUS ANNOUNCES KEY PARTNERSHIPS WITH MAJOR HYSTEROSCOPE MANUFACTURERS TO INCREASE IN-OFFICE SERVICES

Preferred partnerships represent almost two thirds of U.S. Hysteroscope Market

SAN CARLOS, Calif. (July 7, 2005) – Conceptus, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTS), today announced that it has accelerated its efforts to market the Essure® procedure into physicians’ offices by entering into preferred relationships with two leading hysteroscope manufacturers, KARL STORZ Endoscopy America, Inc. and Richard Wolf Medical Instruments Corporation. The relationships will better promote the delivery of hysteroscopy services in doctors’ offices throughout the United States. These two manufacturers, with a combined 170 sales representatives, together account for 64% of the U.S. market for hysteroscopes, according to Millennium Research.

As part of these agreements, the Conceptus sales force will be equipped with small diameter hysteroscopes from both manufacturers, which will be used in the demonstration and training of the Essure procedure.

“These partnerships are very rewarding for everyone involved—physicians, patients and payers,” said Mark Sieczkarek, president and CEO of Conceptus. “The in-office setting provides an efficient site of service, which is more convenient for the patient and physician, while taking significant costs out of the healthcare system.”

Mr. Sieczkarek continued, “The new CPT code issued this year includes reimbursement for in-office Essure procedures, making this a viable financial alternative for physicians. We are looking forward to working with physicians who want to make this paradigm shift in female permanent birth control available to their patients.”

High levels of patient satisfaction are reported when minimally invasive surgical procedures are performed in an office setting. Gynecologists cite high levels of satisfaction specifically with the Essure procedure in office because of decreased office–to-hospital travel time, convenience in patient scheduling and patient comfort in a familiar setting.

“KARL STORZ Endoscopy is pleased to join Conceptus in promoting office-based hysteroscopy procedures performed by gynecologists,” said Thomas Prescher, Director of Marketing, Gynecology and Video, KARL STORZ. “This important collaboration is supportive of our company’s ongoing efforts to broaden the range of quality care patients can receive within the familiar atmosphere of their doctor’s office.”

“We are excited to partner with Conceptus, an innovator, and developer of the Essure hysteroscopic sterilization procedure. Together, our dedicated employees can deliver a powerful combination of products, education, and service to the gynecology community,” said Kevin Gallagher, Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing, Richard Wolf Medical Instruments Corporation.

About the Essure Procedure
The Essure procedure deploys a soft micro-insert into the fallopian tube through the cervix using a minimally invasive transcervical tubal access catheter. Once in place, the device is designed to elicit tissue growth in and around the micro-insert to form an occlusion or blockage in the fallopian tube. An Essure procedure does not require cutting or penetrating the abdomen and can be performed in a less costly procedure setting without general anesthesia. A woman is able to return home about 45 minutes after the procedure is completed. There is a three-month waiting period after the procedure during which women must use another form of birth control. Essure is 99.80% effective after three years of follow-up.
