	Founded in 1992 and headquarterd in Northern California, Conceptus® (NASDAQ: CPTS) is engaged in the design, development, promotion and distribution of innovative medical products for use in the field of women's health. As pioneers in women’s healthcare, Conceptus is committed to providing minimally invasive solutions for women. Currently, the company is dedicated to offering women and physicians a better solution in birth control when their families are complete. The Essure Procedure The Essure procedure is the first proven minimally invasive form of permanent birth control. It can be performed in the comfort of a physician’s office in about 10 minutes without hormones, incisions, burning or the risks associated with general anesthesia or tubal ligation. Small, flexible micro-inserts are placed in the fallopian tubes through the cervix without incisions. Over the next several weeks, Essure works with a woman’s body to create a natural barrier around the micro-inserts to prevent sperm from reaching the eggs. Three months after the Essure procedure, a doctor performs an Essure Confirmation Test to confirm that the fallopian tubes are fully blocked and that the patient can rely on Essure for permanent birth control with full confidence. Market and Clinical Information In 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval to market the Essure® device in the United States, a market where over 700,000 tubal ligations (the leading form of birth control) and 400,000 vasectomies are performed annually. Additionally, there are 7.5 million women whose families are completed and remain on temporary methods of birth control. Many of these women do not want the risks of surgery and are unaware of the Essure procedure.
